Ragged Robins
I have a Five Roses Flour cookbook from 1938. It had been given to my mother who was 14 years old at the time. I remember her using it when we were kids, and it still has her hand-written notes in it.
Here is one of the recipes that she (rarely) made from the cookbook.
Ingredients:
2 Egg whites
1/2 cup granulated Sugar
1 1/2 cups Corn Flakes
1/2 cup chopped Dates
1/2 cup chopped Walnut meats
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
Directions:
Stiffly beat the egg whites, adding the sugar gradually and beating between additions. Add vanilla, cornflakes, dates, and walnut meats. Mix thoroughly. Drop by small spoonfulls onto oiled baking sheet. Bake in a moderate oven (325 degrees) for 15 minutes or until browned.
